Tantalum capacitors, also known as tantalum electrolytic capacitors, are surface-mount and through-hole electronic components which are constructed utilizing tantalum metal as the anode element. The M39003/01-2695/HSD series combines a hermetically sealed tantalum capacitor with hermetically sealed KOVAR external package. It is the latest generation of tantalum capacitors to offer very high energy density and wide temperature range.

Tantalum capacitors are constructed using a series of Tantalum film electrodes, with tantalum metal as the anode. A working electrolytic solution is used between the electrodes, which serves as an insulator. The working electrolyte is usually a mixture of water-soluble compounds called an organic acid, and a corrosion inhibitor, such as zinc oxide, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, or a combination thereof. Due to the properties of the material and the electrolyte, Tantalum capacitors have high dielectric strength, low leakage current, and are generally small in size.

The M39003/01-2695/HSD capacitors have a wide temperature range from -65°C to 125°C, and are well-suited for harsh environments. They are built with an expensive hermitically sealed case, which is designed to protect against flashovers, water and humidity, as well as external shock and vibration. The construction of the hermetically sealed case means that the M39003/01-2695/HSD capacitors can endure high temperatures and high humidity environments. In addition, the hermetically sealed case helps to protect the capacitor from dust and dirt.

The M39003/01-2695/HSD tantalum capacitors also utilize a very high-energy density, which is another feature that makes them ideal for power supply and aviation applications. High-energy density capacitors are able to store a large amount of energy in a small package, meaning that they are able to provide greater levels of energy per unit volume. This is especially useful for applications where space is at a premium. High-energy density capacitors are also more reliable, as they can withstand greater currents and voltages, due to the lower dielectric material used in their construction. The M39003/01-2695/HSD series offers up to 150µF per 1mm of capacitor footprint.

The working principle of the M39003/01-2695/HSD is based on an electrostatics charge. As the voltage is increased, the charge on the electrodes increases, resulting in an increased current. The charge on the capacitor is then stored, which is known as stored energy.

This is known as discharge current, which is the amount of electricity that passes through the capacitor when the voltage is not applied. This energy then dissipates into the electrolyte, resulting in a decrease in the voltage across the capacitor. As the voltage across the capacitor decreases, the charge on the electrodes is also released, resulting in a decrease in stored energy.
