Tantalum capacitors are a type of electrolytic capacitor. This type of capacitor uses a tantalum pellet as an anode with an oxide layer acting as the dielectric. The two extreme ends of the tantalum pellet are in contact with an electrolyte. Tantalum capacitors have a higher capacitance per volume than aluminum electrolytic capacitors, making them much smaller in size, while still providing better functionality. The surface of the anode is etched to increase its surface area and provide better electrical contact with the electrolyte.

The M39003/01-6395/HSD is a high-stability, large temperature range, discrete tantalum capacitor suitable for a variety of applications. It is designed to provide improved capacitance stability and low temperature coefficients over a wide range of parameters. The M39003/01-6395/HSD also features a high dielectric constant, high working temperature range, low dielectric absorption, excellent heat dissipation and superior response time. Due to its long life and high reliability, this device is particularly well suited for use in high-reliability applications such as aerospace and military applications.

The M39003/01-6395/HSD is manufactured with tantalum pellets that have an anodized layer. These layers are made of a dielectric material, such as tantalum oxide, which acts as an insulator between the two terminals. This layer creates an electrostatic field within the device that stores electrical energy. The anode and cathode of the capacitor are connected to pins which connect to the external power supply. This allows for a flow of current between these two terminals, which is what charges and discharges the capacitor and creates its functional working principle.
