Tantalum Capacitors: M39003/01-7229H Application Field and Working Principle

The M39003/01-7229H is a type of tantalum capacitor. It is a type of electrolytic capacitor, with the dielectric being a film of tantalum pentoxide. This particular capacitor is a bi-polarized surface-mount component used in aerospace and military applications. Because of these chemical reactions, the capacitance of the tantalum capacitor will vary with the applied voltage and temperature. When a voltage is applied to the anode of the capacitor, it causes electrolysis of the electrolyte, which forms a solid dielectric layer of tantalum pentoxide on the anode. This dielectric layer allows for the capacitor to maintain a high capacitance in a relatively small space. The capacitance will be affected and even reduce as the anode voltage rises and the electrolyte becomes more depleted.The M39003/01-7229H tantalum capacitor has been designed to work in an environment with a range of high temperatures, from -55°C to 85°C, and is rated for a maximum 63V DC voltage. The life expectancy, however, will depend on the temperature of the environment because as the temperature rises, the chemical reactions become more energy-intensive and can cause the tantalum pentoxide dielectric layer to become more depleted. Because of its small size and ability to store energy whilst operating in a wide range of temperatures, the M39003/01-7229H is mainly used in military and aerospace applications. It is also used in other applications where efficient storage of energy is required, as well as any device requiring AC ripple current suppression and noise filtering.
