When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, the metal oxide layer forms an electric field which polarizes the material, allowing electric charge to be stored in the oxide layer. The oxide layer is connected to both the anode and the cathode, creating a time-varying electric field in which electrons will flow.At low voltages (<3 Volts) the M39003/09-2047H behaves as a standard electrical capacitor, storing a charge and then releasing it over a period of time. At higher voltages (>3 Volts) the capacitor behaves more like a diode, with the reverse leakage current increasing exponentially as the applied voltage increases. At voltages greater than 6 Volts, the capacitor will enter into breakdown and the current will flow without limit.The M39003/09-2047H can be used in power supplies, DC-DC converters, signal conditioning and data acquisition systems, test equipment, military and space systems, and other electronic applications.
