M39003/09-3027/HSD capacitors are a type of tantalum capacitors available in sizes ranging from 2.5mm to 15mm with an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. The M39003/09-3027/HSD capacitors employ a solid manganese dioxide dielectric formed inside a metalized and anodized anode cup. The dielectric is covered in a manganese mesh (negative terminal) and connected to the anodized anode cup. When a DC voltage is applied across the capacitor, the electric field within the dielectric induces current to flow through the manganese mesh. This current flows through the mesh and the anode cup and is returned to the power source, completing the circuit. The area of the anode cup is proportional to the capacitance, and therefore the operating voltage can be controlled by either increasing or decreasing the manganese mesh size.

The M39003/09-3027/HSD capacitors are primarily designed for use in analog circuits, providing a low impedance supply to reduce noise levels in the circuit. In addition, they are suitable for use in digital logic circuitry to reduce ESL and increase design margins. The small size of the capacitor also permits high level integration of components, thereby reducing board costs and enhancing performance.
