Tantalum Capacitors
Tantalum capacitors are a form of electronic component that assists in transmitting, storing and releasing energy or charges in an electrical circuit. This type of capacitor is unique as it not only stores electrical energy, but also holds mechanical energy in the form of a small metal spring connected to the contact pins. In the most common form of the component, a tantalum capacitor is constructed using two capacitors soldered into a healthy substrate and attached with two electrical contacts. M39003/09-3066H Application Field and Working Principle
The M39003/09-3066H is a type of micro miniature, wet–tantalum capacitor, primarily used in electrical and aerospace applications. It has been designed to provide high capacitance in a space–saving shape. The M39003/09-3066H is a polarized capacitor and is offered with a 25V voltage rating.
The M39003/09-3066H works on the same principle as any capacitors, by means of electrostatic energy storage. In this type of component, the object of interest is two capacitors, one charged positive, the other negative. Electric charge is present between these two elements separated by an insulator. When the capacitor is placed between two power sources, the two capacitors within the M39003/09-3066H store energy and create a chain reaction that drives electric current through it. Electricity moves from one charged plate through the insulator to the other plate. The process of electric charge across a capacitor is known as capacitance. The capacitance of a M39003/09-3066H is determined by the surface area of the dielectric, the distance between the two capacitors and the type of material used.
When the capacitor is initially charged, the same amount of electrons accumulate on each plate, generating an electrostatic field. This field is inversely affected by an increase in the distance between the two sides of the capacitor and directly affected by an increase in the dielectric’s surface area. The M39003/09-3066H is capable of withstanding temperatures ranging from -55 up to 125℃ and has a voltage rating of 25V. Other noteworthy features are its 85° working temperature range, 120μH inductance, 220Ω insulation resistance and 0.2% dissipation factor. It also has a long shelf life and is capable of providing superior performance even in high accelerated environments. Future plans for the component include the integration of surface mount technology (SMT) to further enhance the capacitance of the device.
