M39003/09-4023/HSD Application Field and Working Principle

Tantalum capacitors are usually composed of a special oxide, such as Niobium Pentoxide, which is used as the dielectric material. They are usually manufactured in the form of tiny metal cans or chip components, which are constructed by winding two thin strips of tantalum around each other and then coating them with an oxide-based lacquer. The entire assembly is then filled with an electrolytic solution, typically an acidic or alkaline compound. As the potential difference increases, charge is accumulated on the oxide, and the capacitance increases. The performance characteristics of the capacitor, such as the maximum capacitance, the temperature coefficient of capacitance, and the breakdown voltage, are largely determined by the parameters of the oxide material.

M39003/09-4023/HSD application field is mainly for consumer electronics, automotive electronics, power supplies, medical equipment, military equipment, communications, computers and other industries. This series of chip tantalum capacitors are marked between the end of two electrodes, and the white dot on the capacitor is the positive pole of the capacitor. It is mainly used as a filter capacitor or energy-storage capacitor in a circuit. Its temperature coefficient is relatively stable, and the highest temperature coefficient is 200 PPM / ℃.

The voltage of M39003/09-4023/HSD series ranges from 4 to 63V, and its capacitance ranges from 1.0µF to 680µF. It has low ESR and high frequency characteristics. The structure of the product is wound and epoxy structure, which has high reliability and long service life, and its shape is SMD type.

In terms of working principle, tantalum capacitors use the physical principle of electrostatic capacitance to store electrical energy. The capacitor consists of two electrodes of different material composition sandwiched with a dielectric material. When a positive potential is applied to one electrode and a negative potential is applied to the other electrode, the electrons on the positive electrode will be attracted to the negative electrode. At the same time, a voltage will be generated between the two electrodes. When the two electrodes are connected to a power source, the electrons will start to flow from the positive electrode to the negative electrode according to the law of electricity, and the capacitor will start to store electricity. When the capacitor is fully charged, the potential between the two electrodes begins to decrease gradually until it reaches the equilibrium state.

Tantalum capacitors have many advantages such as small size, small internal resistivity, large capacity, wide temperature range, long shelf life, no electrolyte leakage, and stable performance. Furthermore, because of their high level of automation in production, their cost and price are also significantly lower than other types of capacitors. Therefore, this type of capacitor has become an indispensable and important electronic component in many high-tech products.
