Tantalum Capacitors

M39006/09-8583 Application Field and Working Principle

The M39006/09-8583 is a tantalum chip capacitor made with high-grade, 99.9% pure tantalum metal. As a bipolar capacitor, it provides power-modulation capabilities in addition to the basic benefit of storing electrical energy. The capacitance of a M39006/09-8583 varies with voltage, allowing it to control the flow of current more accurately than a standard capacitor. The M39006/09-8583 is used in a variety of electronic components such as memory controllers, power supplies, and processor controllers where precise current control is required.

The working principle of the M39006/09-8583 is based on the aggregation of tantalum pentoxide particles with metal plates, forming a positive and negative capacitance. When voltage is applied to the capacitor, a layer of pentoxide between the two plates creates a capacitance. The amount of capacitance depends on the size of the pentoxide layer and the type of plates used. In addition, the breakdown voltage will also depend on the material used to form the pentoxide layer.

The M39006/09-8583 is also capable of controlling inrush, referred to as "load dumping." It can reduce the high inrush of current during start-up, protecting both the electronic components and the machine from damage due to excessive current. It also features low ESR, or Equivalent Series Resistance, meaning that it can reduce the losses induced by the capacitor itself, resulting in greater efficiency.
