Tantalum capacitors are capacitor elements that combine tantalum and its oxide as two electrodes. These capacitors are very resistant to large temperature differences and possess a higher capacity than other electrolytic capacitors, such as aluminum electrolytic capacitors. M39006/22-0660H is one of these tantalum capacitors.

The M39006/22-0660H has a capacitance of 6.8µF. It is rated to work at 25V DC, has a maximum operating temperature of 105°C, and its Lifetime endurance operating temperature is 85°C. The working frequency is rated up to 10kHz and it has a Very Low ESR of 4.6mΩ. It has a maximum leakage current of 0.06CV after 5 minutes of operation at rated voltage plus 0.5V, with a tolerance of ±20%.

M39006/22-0660H is used in military, aerospace, and automotive industries where high temperature resistance and high capacitance requirements are over other parameters like size. It helps the circuit to withstand higher voltage surge over a period of time and improves signal and power distribution over the same large temperature difference.

The M39006/22-0660H operates on the idea of electrophoresis. Passivation is an important step in constructing a tantalum capacitor. A small amount of tantalum is dissolved into the electrolyte (in this case, a mixture of sulfuric acid and water) to form an electrolyte layer as the insulating layer. The anode (positively charged electrode) and the cathode (negative electrode) are then connected to the capacitor body by means of an electrolyte. When the capacitor is charged, an electric field is created between the anode and the cathode, causing a charged tantalum ion to move to the corresponding electrode.

Electrical energy is stored in a M39006/22-0660H tantalum capacitor in the form of a potential difference between the two electrodes. The potential difference is determined by the distance between the electrodes and the capacitance of the capacitor. The electrical current is conducted through the capacitor by the movement of ions from the anode to the cathode, through the electrolyte.

The M39006/22-0660H can also be used as a polarity-sensitive capacitor. The polarity of the voltage across the two electrodes determines where the ions will move, thus changing the charge in the capacitor. This means the capacitor can be used as a memory device, allowing an input voltage to be “remembered” by the capacitor for a significant amount of time.
