M80 series of headers, commonly known as M80-5211822, are designed to be used for board-to-board, backplane, and wire-to-board applications. The headers are available in a wide variety of configurations, from 1 to 12 positions, single-row and double-row configurations, and have an operating temperature range primarily between -55 °C and 125°C. The contact size is 0.5mm pitch, making the M80-5211822 suitable for densely packed applications and designs.

Working Principle

M80-5211822 consists of a male terminal and a female terminal, where the male terminal is connected to the printed circuit board, and the female terminal is connected to a mating connector. The contact pins of the male terminals are soldered into the printed circuit board, after which the female terminals are connected to the mating connector.

The female terminal consists of an insulated plastic housing and four spring-loaded contacts located inside the housing. The contacts are made up of two contact points and two return points. When the male terminal is inserted into the female terminal, the contact points make contact with the contact points of the male terminal. The spring force of the contacts then ensures the electrical connection between the two terminals is maintained.
