Working Principle

M80-8501642 is equipped with a built-in mechanical damping mechanism which helps maintain secure connection of two printed circuit boards. During mating, the connector temporarily allows approximately 1 degree of misalignment of the two PCBs in order to prevent physical damage due to strong contact. After the contact is established, the loss of mechanical damping is instantly recovered so that the secure contact can be maintained until the two boards are completely dis-mated.

The connector also features a positive locking system consisting of two internal locking arms. When the arm is in its closed state, the arm holds the connector securely in place while also preventing the connector from being accidentally detached. The undulating shape of the arm also helps it securely retain the connector during repeated mating and dis-mating cycles.
