Circular Connectors - Backshells and Cable Clamps encompasses a range of products, among which the M85049/25-16W is included. It is a sixteen-position connector giving access to a range of circuits, and which belongs to the ‘Combiclick’ family of circular connectors.These connectors are designed for a range of aerospace applications as well as mass transport and industrial applications. This kind of connector makes it possible to simply move or alter existing wiring systems. The M85049/25-16W connector has sealed contacts, making it weather resistant and therefore suitable and safe for use in harsh environments. It is designed for use in extreme temperatures; from -55 to +125 degrees Celsius. The backshells of these connectors are produced from PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) plastic to protect the cables against external influences as well as protecting the interior of the connectors. The connector has polarised housings and locking screws that maintain cable strain relief for secure connections.The actual working principle of the M85049/25-16W connector depends on the contact arrangement. It is a bayonet type connection, where the connectors are inserted into each other and their contact arms are snapped into the other connectors inner contact face. To disconnect the connection, the 2 arms are held in place and the bayonets are unscrewed.Each bayonet contact has a pin gold plated and each socket contact has a socket gold plated. This provides a reliable electrical connection between the genders and helps to minimise resistance and electrical losses. The contacts also have a ‘snap-in’ feature, so that they stay securely in place to ensure a reliable electrical connection. Backshells are double walled with silicone gaskets to form a barrier to dust and water vapour.The M85049/25-16W connector is designed to be robust and reliable while providing the necessary environmental protection. It meets several standards: FAR25 and MIL-DTL-38999-III for flammability for aviation applications, MIL-C-24308-1 for corrosion, MIL-I-9552 for sealing and MIL-M-83733-II for strain relief.In conclusion, the M85049/25-16W is a sixteen-position bayonet connector which provides a range of safety and protection features.
