MAX2421EAI+T, a full-duplex transceiver with programmable signal voltage control, is a low-voltage RS-232 line driver/receiver. MAX2421EAI+T combines an integrated line driver and receiver with voltage selectable inputs or outputs to meet the requirements of industrial, automotive, and automotive serial connection applications. The MAX2421EAI+T uses a simple 3-wire interface serial protocol that allows simple and flexible communication between two devices.
The MAX2421EAI+T is comprised of an integrated line driver and receiver. The MAX2421EAI+T allows the user to program the output signal voltage level of the line driver via the programming inputs, UART_VREF and REF_VREF. The programmability of the output signal voltage of the line driver allows the MAX2421EAI+T to support various signal voltage requirements of different serial communication interfaces.

The START signal controls the flow of data between two devices. This signal is used by a master device to initiate data transfers, and then by the slave device to acknowledge the transfers. The START signal can be programmed to have either a positive- or negative-going edge.
