The MAX2624EUA+T RF Misc ICs and Modules is a complete transmit linearizer that includes a high efficiency power amplifier (PA), a power detector, and a temperature-compensated, dynamic feed-forward error-correction loop. The device is designed to reduce distortion and improve spectral purity in EDGE and GSM 900/1800 cellphone applications. The MAX2624EUA+T operates with input power levels ranging from 10 mW to several watts, while maintaining a high power added efficiency (PAE) greater than 50%.
The PA uses an external RF choke and matching inductors to optimize the low and medium power stages. The device can be tuned with an external shunt inductor and includes a high efficiency, temperature-compensated power detector. The MAX2624EUA+T includes an onboard error-correction loop for dynamic, real-time linearizing of the PA. This loop compensates for the gain compression, temperature rolloff and hysteresis of a power amplifier, to reduce distortion and improve spectral purity. The loop includes an external dynamic feedback resistor, whose value is programmed with a standard 8-bit digital signal. The internal feedback network provides the necessary loop compensation and updates the feedback resistor every 8 msec.
The MAX2624EUA+T draws a low supply current of 105 mA. The device operates from a single +5 V ±0.2 V supply and is useful in handheld CDMA2000 and GSM cellphone applications. The device is specified over the full -30°C to +85°C temperature range and supplied in a small 20-pin TSSOP. The MAX2624EUA+T is available in an 8-pad, MLP package.
The MAX2624EUA+T is ideally suited for EDGE and GSM 900/1800 cellphone applications as well as low power, high efficiency radio link base stations. The device improves spectral purity and reduces output power noise while maintaining a 25% higher linear power output. It also provides high gain and low current consumption, making it a perfect choice for low-cost, high-efficient designs. Additionally, the device reduces distortion, power consumption and operating temperature while improving signal quality, reliability and microphone performance.
