A resistor network is connected to the noninverting and inverting inputs. The differential input voltage is then amplified by A3. A Voltage feedback is connected to A3, with the two discharging arms connected to A1 and A2 and their outputs in series. This allows A3 to apply negative feedback to the A1A2 differential input stage. And A4 is configured as a differential output buffer.

Unlike normal IA designs, the MAX4040ESA+T does not use a fixed gain. Instead, gain is set with one external resistor. This adjustable gain makes the MAX4040ESA+T suitable for a wide range of applications requiring low-noise and low-offset amplifiers. The external resistor is connected to the inverting input of A3 and a gain setting resistor is connected between the non-inverting input of A3 and ground.
