MAX4929EETP+ is a digital Video Sync Separator (VSS) circuit with an integrated 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), which performs automatic sync detection and format detection in digital televisions and video recorders. It has an on-chip gain control and is capable of supporting an analog video input in all three major standards such as PAL, NTSC and SECAM.
The MAX4929EETP+ offers several applications in the consumer video market such as video capture, video editing, video streaming, camera surveillance, HDTV monitoring, and home entertainment. Working Principle of MAX4929EETP+
The MAX4929EETP+ uses a three-phase detection scheme to detect the horizontal and vertical sync signals providing a wide operating frequency range and a high degree of accuracy. This is done by measuring the frequency, phase and duty cycle of the sync signals.
The MAX4929EETP+ features a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC) which converts the synchronization signals into analog output formats. The output format is determined by the selectable sync detection. Additionally, it features an Isolation Mode which allows direct control of the horizontal and vertical synchronization signals.
Once the synchronization signals are detected, the MAX4929EETP+ automatically switches from isolation mode to the Programmable Local Area Network (PLAN) Mode when it receives the input video signal. This enables the video decoders, which are connected to the MAX4929EETP+ for video decoding, to receive the output video signals in analog format.
The MAX4929EETP+ also contains an on-chip gain control, which can be adjusted through an I2C interface. This results in improved video quality, as the on-chip gain control eliminates the need for external adjustable gain stages.
The MAX4929EETP+ is capable of operating in temperature ranges between -20°C and +70°C, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications in the consumer video market.
