The MAX5033BASA+ is a high-performance, single-chip, synchronous buck dc-dc switching regulator with 95% conversion efficiency in 1μA of quiescent current. This device is ideal for powering processor cores from a supply rail as low as 0.6Vdc. It integrates a high-performance MOSFET, a precision-regulated reference, gate drivers, compensation components, and a 50MHz oscillator into a single package for simplified design. The dual-channel buck drivers yield improved power density and transient performance. The MAX5033BASA+ reduces ripple current, allowing for greater current draw at lower power conversion losses. Its high-efficiency performance and low-power-loss operation preserve battery life in portable and other remote applications.

The MAX5033BASA+ set makes wide use in applications such as cellular and other handsets, personal digital assistants (PDAs), PDAs, portable computing systems, digital still cameras, multimedia players, video recorders/players, LCD monitors, servers, and other consumer electronic products. Its high power-conversion efficiency allows the MAX5033BASA+ to operate reliably up to 2.3A of output current in the 100-1000 Mhz frequency range with low power consumption. The 10-Volt output voltage range ensures that it can function as a high-power regulator in many applications.

The MAX5033BASA+ is an easy-to-use, low-noise and high-precision power supply solution which maximizes design flexibility and reduces component count. It supports positive, negative and zero-voltage applications. The MAX5033BASA+ employs a high-performance MOSFET which is designed to minimize EMI and RF interference. This device also eliminates the need for additional shunts and snubbers, significantly reducing component count and cost.

The MAX5033BASA+ operates using a buck switching power conversion architecture which incorporates a fixed switching frequency of either 180KHz or 500KHz by default. The default operating frequency can be changed by programming the frequency control register (FCTR) which is used to set the frequency control register (FCTR). This device supports a frequency lock which ensures that its output voltage remains stable over varying input voltage source thresholds.

The MAX5033BASA+ integrates an RDSONT-sensitive low-side MOSFET driver, MOSFET gate drive ISO logic, dual-channel synchronous buck driver with adjustable dead-time control, external current-sense resistor, and compensation components. The device implements local loop control when used for buck operations. It can be configured as either a single-phase or dual-phase regulator which provides excellent transient response.

The MAX5033BASA+ supports a wide input voltage range from 0.6Vdc to 10.0Vdc. Its wide-voltage range and integrated MOSFET allow for extended stability and thermally-enhanced performance with minimized noise and EMI levels. The device is equipped with four internal resistors for current-sense DAC calibration and a 0.4A current limit. It also includes an over-temperature protection feature with adjustable temperature threshold.
