The MAX5090BATE+T is an advanced DC-DC switching regulator, classified as part of the PMIC-Voltage Regulators-DC DC Switching Regulators product family. The MAX5090BATE+T’s advanced design offers several benefits over more basic solutions, including excellent efficiency, fast transient response, and a very wide input voltage range. While operating, the device is able to interface efficiently and effectively with voltage- and current-sensing feedback loops, helping to ensure optimal performance.The MAX5090BATE+T features a relatively high current limit of around 2 A, a wide input voltage range of 3 V - 60 V, and wide bias voltage range of 1.8 V - 5 V The feedback control circuitry allows for a programmable output voltage from 0.6 V to 4.2 V with accuracy and precision. The integrated MOSFETs also offer high efficiency, enabling up to 95.5% efficiency.Under normal operating conditions, the MAX5090BATE+T utilizes a Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) circuit for controlling the amount of power drawn from the input voltage source. This PWM signal is then sent to the MOSFETs connected to it, in turn controlling the output voltage. The power drawn from the input is regulated by an error amplifier, which adjusts the duty cycle applied to the MOSFETs to maintain a constant output voltage. If the output current reaches a preset limit, then the pulse-width modulation is reduced to reduce the amount of power being drawn from the input voltage source.The MAX5090BATE+T also features a soft-start feature. This feature works by slowly increasing the output voltage after start-up, allowing the power elements sufficient time to adequately heat up, while also reducing the amount of power required to start the device. This soft-start feature also reduces design complexity and eliminates the need for an external soft-start circuit.Finally, the MAX5090BATE+T comes with a comprehensive range of protection features. These include a wide-range input UVLO, output overvoltage protection (OVP), input overcurrent protection (OCP), output overcurrent protection (OCP), output short-circuit protection (SCP), and thermal shutdown (TSD).
