The MAX5093AATE+T is a highly integrated, low-cost system power-management integrated circuit (PMIC) specifically designed for use in mobile, portable and embedded systems. The MAX5093AATE+T includes two independent voltage regulators, linear and switching, to provide cost-effective power supply management to system components such as microprocessors and Memory. It is targeted at systems that are space- and size-constrained, cost-sensitive and power-sensitive.
The MAX5093AATE+T integrates a single 400 mA low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator and a single 2.25 A high-efficiency DC-DC buck switching regulator for a combined total of 2.65 A of output current. The LDO is a high-performance regulator that is stable with small 2.2 μF ceramic output capacitors, provides adjustable output voltage from 0.8 V to 5.5 V, and has fast transient response. The buck switching regulator has a wide input voltage range of 2.5V to 6.2V, adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 5.5V, and provides up to 2.25A of continuous output current.
The MAX5093AATE+T offers two power supply rail tracking configurations. In one configuration, either the switching or linear regulator can be synchronized to the other. In this mode, the output of the lower rail is maintained with respect to the higher rail. The second mode is a forced tracking mode, where both rails track each other. In this mode, the higher rail follows the lower rail.
The MAX5093AATE+T includes two output enable pins (EN1 and EN2) that are used to enable the LDO and buck regulators respectively. A logic high on one of the enable pins will enable either the LDO or the buck regulator, while a logic low will force the voltage rail output to ground. The MAX5093AATE+T also includes a sleep mode to reduce system power consumption. The EN1 and EN2 control pins can be used to simultaneously shut down both regulators. In sleep mode, the quiescent currents of both regulators are reduced to less than 5 μA.
The MAX5093AATE+T also includes a wide range of protection features that help protect the system from overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and short-circuit conditions. The device includes a selectable overvoltage monitor (OVM) to detect an output voltage that exceeds its predetermined threshold. The OVM is selectable between the LDO and buck rails. Additionally, the MAX5093AATE+T includes an overcurrent protection circuit to ensure safe operation of the load in case of an output fault condition.
The MAX5093AATE+T is housed in a small, 8-pin SOT-23 package and is specified for the extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. It is offered in two versions, one with the DC-DC converter disabled, allowing customers to add the buck regulator when needed, and one with both regulators enabled.
