The MAX5889EGK+D are part of the Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) family. The MAX5889EGK+D are a low-voltage, low-power, precision, serial-input, voltage and/or current, 8-bit digital-to-analog converters optimized to drive piezoelectric transducers, piezoelectric buzzers, thermoelectric coolers, and haptic devices. Utilizing an integrated high-voltage driver and 0.6″ leadless, 8-TDFN package makes the MAX5889EGK+D an ideal choice for a host of portable devices.
The MAX5889EGK+D enable the control of applications that require either a small or large number of DACs in a very small form factor and with high performance, low power and low cost. Its low power mode makes it ideal for battery powered devices where minimizing the power with respect to the load current is important. Its integrated circuits combine high performance and low power enabling the DACs to maintain accuracy and fast response even in small packages.
The MAX5889EGK+D is designed to be used with a 3.3V and 5V low-voltage analog power supply, and is versatile enough to drive numerous types of load. The output voltage range is adjustable from 0 to VDD and the current range is adjustable from 0 to 500mA. The output voltage range is further improved by adding an external resistor for increasing the voltages in the higher range. The application is also expandable to 24bits by cascading the 8bit DACs.
The MAX5889EGK+D is available in an 8-TDFN package offering a wide equipment selection including, but not limited to, piezoelectric transducers, piezoelectric buzzers, thermoelectric coolers, and haptic devices. The MAX5889EGK+D device is ideal to use in safety-relevant control applications, such as those in the medical, aviation, and nuclear power generation fields.
The MAX5889EGK+D works by processing the digital input data from the host microcontroller or processor and converting it into an analog voltage according to the user-defined range. The output voltage range can be tailored for the application by using external resistors for various load requirements. The converter output current can be adjusted using external resistors. The device also offers flexible output voltage range configurations for the various applications by using the internal resistor ladder. Additionally, the device supports synchronous dual-channel operation and can be cascaded for higher resolution operation.
The device also has an integrated reference voltage which can be used to set output voltage and/or current levels. Additionally, the MAX5889EGK+D also support data masking which allows the user to mask certain DAC channels in an organized manner. The output capacitor decoupling is also optimized to ensure stable performance in the operating state. The device can also function as an unified data transceiver, providing real-time control to the connected application.
