The MAX619CPA is a step-down DC-DC Switching Regulator designed for power supply solutions for automotive, industrial and consumer applications. It integrates two low-cost, monolithic, low-power buck converters that can handle up to 1A current and deliver a voltage between 0.6V and 10V. As the switching regulator uses pulse-width modulated (PWM) control, it ensures an efficient and fast regulation of output current.

The regulator output is programmed with a single resistor and the PWM current-mode control guarantees excellent transient response. The MAX619CPA incorporates a low-dropout (LDO) operating at a high current of up to 2A. The LDO output voltage can be programmed via an external resistor, while its wide input voltage range of up to 45V makes the device highly suitable for high-voltage applications. The MAX619CPA provides inbuilt protection circuits such as an adjustable reset, open-drain output, over-voltage detection and crowbar protection.

The MAX619CPA can operate in a wide temperature range from -40°C to +85° centigrade, also features soft start, frequency synchronization, and regulated short-circuit and overload protection. Its low quiescent current of 1.6mA in standby mode and fast recovery from short-circuit condition makes it an ideal solution for all kinds of power supply solutions.

The MAX619CPA is designed for PWM and pulse-frequency-modulated (PFM) control applications and it requires external P-channel and N-channel power MOSFETs. The device interfaces directly with common microcontrollers via its two addressable output pins. As the two internal buck regulators have separate addressable output pins, they can be switched independently, allowing the use of an external P-channel MOSFET as an output disconnect switch.

The MAX619CPA operating principle is based on pulse-width modulation technique, which means that the output voltage is regulated by varying the width of the pulses applied to the gate of the external power MOSFETs. The PWM modulator allows the load current to be regulated by a fraction of the current used by the power MOSFETs. This ensures the high efficiency of the DC-DC converter.

The MAX619CPA provides an input voltage range of up to 45V and a maximum peak output current of up to 1A with a low 0.8W quiescent current. The device features an adjustable switching frequency and can be synchronized to an external clock source for noise reduction application. Moreover, the device features short-circuit protection, thermal protection and an adjustable reset voltage.
