The MAX6687AU75H+T device combines on-chip temperature sensor, thermal limit comparator, and patrol functions in a single 16-pin package. The internal temperature sensor contains an on-chip resistor that changes with temperature, allowing for accurate temperature measurement. This device takes a voltage-proportional signal from its thermal sensor that is proportional to temperature and compares it to preset high and low warning/critical temperatures set in the MAX6687EUA register. The thermal-event output will be triggered as soon as the temperature reaches the preset thresholds. The thermal patrol function is suitable for desktop PCs and helps to decrease fan noise, saving power and prolonging fan life. When the device is in thermal patrol mode, it performs regular temperature checks and issues temperature-polling commands.
