MAX668EUB is a DC-DC switching controller from the family of PMIC-Voltage Regulators-DC DC Switching Controllers. This device is a monolithic integrated circuit (IC) which provides functions like control, monitoring, and protection for power supplies. It is widely used in industrial and consumer applications like networking, battery-powered and microprocessor-based equipment.This IC is a multi-featured controller for adjustable buck or boost switching converters with direct current (DC) input and output voltages. It features Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controllers with a low operating current of 5mA. This controller can be operated under either step-down or step-up mode, depending on the configuration set by the user. The Direction pin (DIR) enables the user to determine the operating mode with a low logic level. Additionally, the output voltage is adjustable up to 0.8V with ±2% of accuracy.To ensure reliable and accurate system performance, the MAX668EUB controller has many protective functions like undervoltage lockout (UVL), overvoltage lockout (OVL), undertemperature shutdown (UTS), short circuit protection (SCP), temperature anti-windup (TAW), and dynamic output disconnect (DOD). The UVL and OVL features are used to protect against input voltage fluctuations, while UTS is used to prevent thermal issues. SCP prevents over current and TAW prevents a gradual decrease in output voltage as the temperature increases. The DOD feature is used for system reset and also helps to improve dynamic response and protect the IC.The MAX668EUB also includes internal oscillator which eliminates the need for an external clock. This oscillator has a wide range of clock frequencies from 8KHz to 1MHz. With this standard feature, the user can easily set the switching frequency and get precise control of the output voltage and current.When configured in buck mode, the MAX668EUB itself can reach an efficiency of up to 91%.
