Temperature sensing is very important for many industrial, commercial, and consumer applications, and the MAX6692MSA+ from Maxim Integrated is a versatile analog-output temperature sensor, ideal for monitoring ambient temperatures in these various applications. The MAX6692MSA+ combines temperature monitoring, alerting, and precision analog temperature measurement into a single integrated circuit. This versatile device offers unprecedented performance and accuracy while being affordable and small in size.

The MAX6692MSA+ uses a thermistor sensing element, which is a type of resistor whose resistive value changes with temperature. This thermistor sensing element can measure temperatures ranging from -20°C to +125°C with a resolution of 0.25°C. The temperature sensor is connected to an analog-to-digital converter and a microprocessor, which together control the operation of the MAX6692MSA+. The microprocessor can be programmed with output parameters such as temperature setpoints, hysteresis settings, time-out duration, and alarm thresholds, and then monitors the temperature via the analog-to-digital converter.
