Power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is an important component of modern electronic products, and plays an important role in the development of electronic products. The battery management system is an important part of the PMIC, which not only manages the power, but also maintains the normal operation of the electronic products. One kind of battery management chip is the MAX6781LTC+T.
The MAX6781LTC+T integrates several functions related to battery management, such as automatic battery charging, power conversion and so on. It is a high performance single chip battery management device, suitable for a variety of medium-sized and large-sized battery packs. It integrates 28 blocks, including input power, step-down/boost DC-DC controllers, and 8 individual Li-ion/LiFePO battery cell management and monitoring. These blocks can be divided into four sections for convenience.
Input Power Control and Power Shopping
The MAX6781LTC+T has a built-in high efficiency low voltage step-down DC-DC main power converter and high performance 8-pin input power MOSFETs. The internal 12V step-down voltage regulator and the integrated 8-pin MOSFET are used to power the device. The internal circuit logic of the DC-DC main power converter guarantees that the power supply of the circuit elements is kept within the safe operating range and the dynamic power consumption is evenly distributed within the battery pack.
Battery Cell Monitoring and Protection
The MAX6781LTC+T includes a set of high-precision cell-level voltage measurement and battery protection functions. The chip also has two on-chip ADC and 32 Kbit EEPROM, which are mainly used for battery cell voltage monitoring, overcharging and over-discharging protection, smart cell balancing, accurate pack voltage and capacity measurement, etc. In addition, these functions can be programmed through the I2C interface.
Charge Controller
The charge controller of the MAX6781LTC+T uses a highly efficient low power step-down DC-DC charger. It can be used for either charging or discharging of the Li-ion/ LiFePO4 battery pack. The input voltage can be up to 25V, the charger output current up to 2.5A and the charger maximum power up to 20W. In addition, it also includes features such as over-voltage protection, thermal protection, and short-circuit protection.
Battery Cell Balancing
The MAX6781LTC+T supports a variety of battery cell balance algorithms, such as maximum delta voltage (MDC) algorithm and battery backup (BB) algorithm. The MDC algorithm allows a current distribution to each battery cell according to the measured difference in cell voltage. The BB algorithm can be used for low voltage cell restoration, making it more suitable for applications such as battery backup systems. Both of these algorithms can guarantee that the circuit works reliably and can be easily programmed via the onboard I2C interface.
The MAX6781LTC+T is widely used in medium-sized and large-sized battery packs and battery backup systems.
