The chip also has two on-chip ADC and 32 Kbit EEPROM, which are mainly used for battery cell voltage monitoring, overcharging and over-discharging protection, smart cell balancing, accurate pack voltage and capacity measurement, etc. In addition, these functions can be programmed through the I2C interface.

Charge Controller

The charge controller of the MAX6781LTC+T uses a highly efficient low power step-down DC-DC charger. It can be used for either charging or discharging of the Li-ion/ LiFePO4 battery pack. The input voltage can be up to 25V, the charger output current up to 2.5A and the charger maximum power up to 20W. In addition, it also includes features such as over-voltage protection, thermal protection, and short-circuit protection.

Battery Cell Balancing

The MAX6781LTC+T supports a variety of battery cell balance algorithms, such as maximum delta voltage (MDC) algorithm and battery backup (BB) algorithm. The MDC algorithm allows a current distribution to each battery cell according to the measured difference in cell voltage. The BB algorithm can be used for low voltage cell restoration, making it more suitable for applications such as battery backup systems. Both of these algorithms can guarantee that the circuit works reliably and can be easily programmed via the onboard I2C interface.
