The MAX6793TPLD3+ is an ultra-low-power supervisor that provides overvoltage, undervoltage, and power-on reset protection for microprocessor (MPU) applications. It incorporates a 4-channel comparator with a programmable threshold voltage. The supervisor also monitors power fail (PF) and remote power fail (RPF) along with three additional programmable digital inputs. It provides time-delayed active-low reset (RESET) signals in response to a single supply voltage being out of the programmable operating range.
The MAX6793TPLD3+ is widely used in industrial, computer, and consumer applications that require extremely low quiescent current operation and reliable power-on reset voltage monitoring for MPUs. It is also used in other applications that require regulated power supplies and circuit protection.
The MAX6793TPLD3+ provides the following functional features in a very small surface-mount package: analog voltage monitoring, digital input monitoring, remote monitoring, power-on reset (POR) and power fail (PF) delay timers, low quiescent current consumption, ultra-low dynamic threshold voltage, and an operating supply voltage range of 2.2V to 5.5V. It also provides a user-programmable total reset time, adjustable threshold voltage and reset delay time, trip voltage accuracy, external reset latch override and undervoltage lockout (UVLO).
The functional block diagram of the MAX6793TPLD3+ is shown in Figure 1. It consists of four channels of analog input monitoring, four channels of digital input monitoring, a comparator, a voltage reference, a reset generator, a reset timer, and a voltage monitor logic. The analog inputs enable the generation of reset signals on the MAX6793TPLD3+ when the supplied voltage is outside the specified range. Digital inputs are used to enable or disable the reset signal. The voltage reference is used to set the trip voltage of the comparator.
The reset generator generates the reset signal on the MAX6793TPLD3+ when the voltage measurement is outside the specified range. The reset timer defines the reset timeout period. The delay time can be programmed through external pins. The voltage monitor logic helps to detect any short-term glitches or transients on the supply voltage and filters out any false alarm signals. The reset generator has an open-drain output which can be connected to an external MOSFET or an open-drain NPN transistor to provide a reset signal.
The MAX6793TPLD3+ operates with a single +2.2V to +5.5V power supply. It includes an internal voltage regulator, allowing the supervisor to detect unmonitored voltage levels on the VDD input. The MAX6793TPLD3+ can detect an overvoltage, an undershoot voltages, and power-on reset (POR) sequences with time delays. The device also provides an open-drain RESET output, which can be latched with an external MOSFET or an open-drain NPN transistor.
