MAX680ESA+T is a DC DC switching regulator from the PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators family. This product is a two-channel PWM controller with a power MOSFET switch for regulating system voltage and current. It is ideal for mobile applications and other applications where high efficiency and light weight are desired.The MAX680ESA+T application field includes: adjustable current limiter, adjustable voltage regulator, battery charger, constant current load, current mode converter, power leveler and voltage regulator. It can be used to easily regulate input and output voltages in all sorts of systems and is compatible with MOSFETs and IGBTs as well as other power electronic components. As it is also capable of adjusting voltage and current, it is suitable for a variety of applications and can be used as an adjustable voltage regulator, battery charger, and power leveler.
The MAX680ESA+T working principle is quite simple yet effective. The controller provides a constant current load by controlling the on-time of the mosfet switch and the reference voltage. The MOSFET switch acts as a pulsetrain and can be pulsed with several different switching frequencies. This is done in order to minimize noise, ripple and better control the power conversion.
