Power management integrated circuits (PMICs) provide the voltage and power source control required to efficiently manage the power of systems and sub-systems in any type of electronic system. PMICs are responsible for managing and controlling energy to enable a system to perform its intended functions, and they help to ensure that other systems in the system remain operational within their rated limits. PMICs can be divided into various categories, including Voltage Regulators, Supervisors and Controllers. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring the safe operation of a system, as well as monitoring system events, and controlling the behavior of other devices and systems when necessary. One particular type of supervisor chip is the MAX808LESA+.

MAX808LESA+ Application Field

The MAX808LESA+ is designed to provide overvoltage and undervoltage protection, as well as excess power monitoring and reset functions. MAX808LESA+ Working Principle

The MAX808LESA+ works by monitoring the system voltage level, and compares it against the set threshold level. When the system voltage drops below or rises above the threshold level, the MAX808LESA+ will quickly generate a reset signal that will, in turn, initiate the reset of the system. Additionally, the MAX808LESA+ will generate an active-low Power OK output signal to indicate that a stable power supply is present. The POK will be asserted when the output voltage is within the proper operating range and de-asserted when the voltage falls below the low voltage threshold level or rises above the high voltage threshold level.

In addition, the MAX808LESA+ can detect an overvoltage condition that is greater than the preset threshold as described above, and can generate an active-low Overvoltage pin. Thisovervoltage pin can be used to prevent system damage caused by an overvoltage event. The MAX808LESA+ has an effective accuracy of ±1.5%, ±1.5% in terms of system voltage, and in terms of POK output.

The MAX808LESA+ is also designed to have a long hold-up time to ensure that the system has enough time to respond appropriately to a system reset event. The delay time of MAX808LESA+ is adjustable up to ~ 5 sec, and the reset holdoff time is adjustable up to 16.6 ms.
