Working Principle:
The MAX815TEPA+ is designed to protect the microprocessor from incorrect startup or undesired operations. It is based on a reset output generator with a high-gain comparator , which resets the microprocessor when the voltage level falls below the reset threshold. The reset output is usually held for 150ms after the supply voltage reaches the reset threshold. The reset threshold is adjustable and can be set from 1.25V to 5V with an external resistor. In addition, the MAX815TEPA+ features an active-low reset output that provides an indication of the power status. The reset output switches low when the Vcc voltage drops below the reset threshold and remains low until Vcc rises above the reset threshold. The PWRFAIL output is also active-low and switches low when Vcc drops below the reset threshold. This output is used to indicate a power failure condition.
The MAX815TEPA+ also features an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) that monitors the Vcc voltage to prevent the device from accidentally activating. This is useful in battery-powered applications, as the device will not operate when the battery level is low. Additionally, the MAX815TEPA+ has a built-in temperature compensation circuit that compensates for temperature variations, as well as an internal oscillator to generate the periodic reset pulse. It also provides a manual reset input that can be used to reset the microprocessor if desired.
