MAX817LCUA+ is an advanced voltage supervisor by Maxim Integrated, offering fast response to out-of-tolerance conditions and excellent supply noise rejection through its high-impedance input. The MAX817LCUA+ is designed to provide reliable voltage monitoring and protection for a wide range of applications. It can handle low-voltage logic, milliamp or large-current logic, high-voltage power switching, medium-power FETs, MOSFETs, AC-DC converters, and DC-DC converters. Additionally, this device can provide overvoltage and undervoltage protection, thermal shutdown, and optional manual reset.
The MAX817LCUA+ is well suited for a variety of applications, including system startup, adherence to threshold voltage levels, voltage clamping, lighting, battery charger protection, and other product-safety and security applications.
The MAX817LCUA+ operates from a single +2.7V to +6.0V supply voltage and requires an external precision power supply and reference. It operates over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The device typically consumes a supply current of 1µA at 25°C and 4µA at +85°C.
The MAX817LCUA+ offers an industry-leading 0.5µs maximum response time and an excellent 10µs propagation delay with 1.2µs jitter in-built. The device also provides an internal voltage monitor with two reset outputs (active high and active low), and a manual reset input. It is available in a tiny 3-pad SC70 package.

The device’s voltage detection algorithm operates in a referenced-voltage mode, monitoring the voltage of the supervisor output when a reference voltage is applied. The built-in comparator senses the voltage at the supervisor output relative to the reference voltage applied, and it has the capability of detecting small changes in the comparator’s input. Then, the device’s output will be set to either a logic high or logic low state, depending on whether the voltage is above or below the reference voltage. These logic levels are readily available, and they can be used to control external devices.
In addition to the reference-voltage mode, the MAX817LCUA+ can also operate in a hysteresis mode, where a reference-voltage threshold is set below which a reset output is enabled. This ensures that the system is held in reset until the voltage is above the set threshold for a certain duration. Also, the device has an adjustable supply voltage, which is used to set the reset and active thresholds according to the application’s requirements.
The MAX817LCUA+ offers fast and reliable performance, making it ideal for a range of applications, including system startups, lighting, power switching, battery charging, and safety and security monitoring.
