The MAX817MEPA+ is a supervisory circuit designed to monitor microprocessor-based systems, providing protection against power-on reset (POR), manual reset (MR), power-fail reset (PFR), VCC undervoltage reset (UV), watchdog timer (WDT), and slow rising power reset (SPR). It offers a wide range of features, such as an open-drain reset output, fast rising and falling power supply reset, an adjustable reset threshold voltage for VCC, and independent control of the PFR and WDT timeouts. The main feature of the MAX817MEPA+ is its ability to monitor multiple power supplies. When VCC is less than the reset threshold voltage (Vth), the MAX817MEPA+ will drive the reset output low, causing the processor to reset and/or halt. When VCC rises above the reset threshold voltage, the device will activate the reset output, releasing the processor from reset and allowing it to continue its operation.

The MAX817MEPA+ also features a watchdog timer (WDT). The watchdog timer operates when a signal is received from the system logic (usually through the WDI pin). If the signal is not received within the set timeout period, the MAX817MEPA+ will activate the reset output, causing a system reset. This provides a failsafe mechanism in the event of a system malfunction or failure.

The device also features a slow-rising power reset (SPR) to detect slow rise-time faults in power supply systems. SPR is activated when the voltage at the VCC pin rises slower than the set timeout period. When the slow rise-time fault is detected, the device will activate the reset output and hold the system in reset until the fault is rectified.
