A supervisor, or supervisory control system, is an electronic circuitry that monitors, supervises, and/or controls system operations. Its primary functions are to ensure proper operation of the monitored equipment, prevent system operation outside of its normal parameters, and to provide shut down and/or signaling to alert personnel of abnormality in the monitored equipment. In most cases, the supervision is in regard to some form of power, such as power supply stability and/or the presence of a power source.
The MAX8212EPA+ is a precision, single-supply supervisor designed to control power supply sequencing and overall system performance in processor-based systems, such as those found in automotive, industrial, consumer, and other systems. It features a high-accuracy reset threshold voltage, precision voltage monitoring (overvoltage, undervoltage and reverse supply voltage polarity), temperature compensation, wide system operating temperature range and an active-low reset output.
The MAX8212EPA+ can accurately detect and monitor voltage levels, allowing an industrial system to either maintain proper operation or to suspend operations upon the detection of an abnormal voltage. It offers a wide range of operating voltages, from 3.4V to 17V, making it suitable for a variety of applications. The device also features selectable threshold accuracy of ±1.5% or ±3% over the device’s full temperature range, reducing the need for external trimming.
The MAX8212EPA+ also provides superior power-up/power-down sequencing, allowing electronics systems to stay within their given operating parameters. The device provides a reset output (active-low reset) in response to monitored voltage levels, which can be used to drive system shutdown or reset other power supplies. The device also contains an internal time delay, settable to 100ms or 2.5s, that determines the minimum reset pulse width.
