The MAX8557ETE+ is an advanced 3A, low-dropout, linear regulator for powering processor cores and other critical power applications. It provides high precision with onboard 0.8 V reference, low quiescent current, low output noise, small solution size, and excellent power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). The MAX8557ETE+ is ideal for powering FPGAs, DSPs, ARM processor cores, SRAM, and other high-current applications.The MAX8557ETE+ is a linear voltage regulator with features such as onboard voltage reference, low quiescent current, and best-in-class low drop-out voltage. It implements a traditional non-switching linear regulator design, which uses a series pass element (transistor) to regulate the output voltage of the regulator. This series pass element is driven by two resistors (R1 and R2) connected between the output of the regulator and ground. The output voltage of the regulator is set by adjusting the two resistors. The MAX8557ETE+ also comes with an onboard 0.8V voltage reference, which is used in combination with the two resistors to set the output voltage of the regulator. The voltage reference is controlled by a bias current, which is set by the jumper “REFIN”. The voltage reference and bias current ensure that the regulator provides a precise and stable output voltage. The MAX8557ETE+ has several features that give it excellent performance. The ultra-low drop-out voltage of the regulator (minimum drop-out voltage of only 0.5V) ensures that the regulator can provide a reliable output voltage even when the input voltage is close to the output voltage. The low quiescent current ensures that the regulator does not draw too much current when the output voltage is stable. The over-voltage protection feature allows the regulator to protect the load from high output voltages. The over-temperature protection feature shuts down the regulator when the IC gets too hot. The over-current protection and short-circuit protection features protect the regulator from excessive current drawn by the load. The MAX8557ETE+ is optimized for high-current step-down DC-DC converter applications. It is ideal for powering FPGAs, DSPs, SRAM, ARM processor cores, and other high-current applications.
