MAX8599ETE+: Application Field and Working Principle

The MAX8599ETE+ is a high-performance, integrated voltage regulator solution from Maxim Integrated specifically designed for applications that require exceptional power supply performance and system reliability. The MAX8599ETE+ consists of an externally driven 5V to 28V step down DC-DC converter, internal compensation, an external input voltage source, a low-side MOSFET integrated switch, and an on-board programmable current limit circuit. It integrates a complete control, current limit, voltage feedback, and output regulation loop in a single component.

Working Principle

The MAX8599ETE+ works on a two-phase PWM controller principle. The device monitors the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle according to the output voltage feedback to maintain it within the prescribed limits. The voltage feedback is compared with the internal 1.2V reference voltage, and the error is amplified internally. This error voltages is then compared with the ramp out pulse, and if the error voltage is greater than the ramp out voltage, the PWM duty cycle is increased. Conversely, if the modified error voltage is lesser than the ramp out voltage, the PWM duty cycle is decreased.

The device also features an internal over current protection circuit which limits the current delivered to the output if the load presentation changes, inducing a large current surge. The device also has an open load detection circuit for load disconnection detection. The MAX8599ETE+ also has an over-temperature protection circuit, which shuts down the device if the temperature exceeds 130°C.
