The MAX901BCSE+ is a part of a family of Linear - Comparators. It is a space-saving 8-pin DIP or SOIC packages which provide low-power operation, precision offset-voltage tuning, and low offset voltage. The low-voltage devices are ideal for use in evaluation boards as well as many portable applications.
It has a wide supply range of 2.7V to 10.8V and it is stable with supplies up to 13V. Its CMOS output can source and sink up to 6.5mA, and it has low 11µA active supply current, consuming only 100µA during shutdown. It also features an offset voltage adjustment range of 9mV to 24mV, with a guaranteed 0.1mV settling accuracy.
In addition to its low-power and low-voltage attributes, the MAX901BCSE+ offers a slew rate controlled by an internal RC network integrated on the die, resulting in up to 300kHz bandwidth. Its low-impedance inputs provide excellent noise immunity and its low-quiescent current consumption guarantee fast response time with low-power consumption.
Applications for the MAX901BCSE+ include precision thermocouple signal conditioning, 3-wire temperature sensor, high-side current sensing, CMOS/O: TTL buffer/driver/level converter, window comparator/threshold detector/actuator control, analog/digital converter/sampler and low-power logic gates.
Working Principle
The MAX901BCSE+ operates in 8-bit single-ended mode, and contains four precision CMOS voltage-comparators, two reference-voltage comparators, and four selectable voltage clamps. The dual output of the device is available in open-drain, push-pull, and wired-and modes. It uses precision thermal compensation to maintain excellent offset accuracy over temperature.
The two reference-voltage comparators sense two selectable voltage levels, which result in an absolute accuracy of ±1%. When selected by logic inputs (A), i.e., A low = VREF1, and A high = VREF2, the comparators form a voltage window in which the outputs switch state when the input voltage exceeds the predetermined threshold.
The MAX901BCSE+ also contains four selectable voltage clamps that can be enabled using a single logic input (C). These voltage clamps provide protection from over-voltage inputs, preventing the outputs from exceeding the defined clamp level. In addition, the inputs of the comparators have schmitt-trigger hysteresis for improved noise immunity at the threshold levels.
