The MAX9144ESD+ is a high-speed, precision, low-power CMOS comparator optimized for ESD robustness and low-voltage operation. This linear-preset device combines high performance, low power, and excellent ESD protection, making it suitable for use in analog-to-digital converters, voltage monitors and data-acquisition systems. The MAX9144ESD+ is designed with extremely low input bias current and fast propagation delays, ensuring fast switching and low delay times. The MAX9144ESD+ also has a patented ESD protection scheme that allows the device to tolerate up to 6kV human body model (HBM) ESD without latch up. The device is available in an SOT-23 (DAP) package with an operating voltage range of 1.7 V to 5.5 V and a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The MAX9144ESD+ comparator is based on the Schmitt trigger concept. The input signal is compared by two threshold levels VTH+ and VTH-, which are determined by two separate reference voltages. When the signal voltage rises to the level VTH+, the output changes to a state of high level, whereas when the signal voltage drops to the level VTH-, the output Voltage Node changes level to a low state. The levels VTH+ and VTH- may be preset to different values by the reference voltages. This type of comparator is used extensively in analog-to-digital conversion and data acquisition.

The MAX9144ESD+ combines low power and rapid response time with a high level of ESD protection. The device uses a patented ESD protection scheme based on an N-well diode-current clamped circuit, which limits the amount of charge transferred during an ESD event and prevents the device from latching up. This protection enables the MAX9144ESD+ to tolerate up to 6kV HBM ESD without damage to the device.
