The MAX9205EAI+ is an 8-channel, low-power, low-skew, zero-delay buffering (ZDB) deserializer designed to receive and clock data from various serializers. It is also capable of recovering embedded clock information where it has been scrambled on the serial output. The device can accept and clock serial data up to 5.5 Gb/s, and convert it to 4-bit or 8-bit parallel LVDS clock and data output. The interface can be used in applications such as clock and data recovery and retiming, parallel to or from serial data conversion, scrambling and descrambling, performance enthused transceiver designs, and custom backplane design.
The on-chip ZDBs offer very low group delay variation and can pass data with 0ns delay for embedded known clock applications. The device also has a data clock synchronization circuit that regenerates the data clock from input data when the data is scrambled. The integrated clock Multiplexer routes the recovered clock (embedded or recovered from the input data) to the output deserializer, depending on whether the input data is scrambled or embedded with a known clock.
The data and clock Inputs supports LVPECL/CML, LVDS, and LVCMOS/LVTTL formats. The device also include a power-down input, a fast start-up, and integrates programmable output Skew and a power-on reset.
The device is utilized in variety of interface design applications, such as backplane clock recovery, high-speed serial channels, automotive infotainment systems, medical imaging and instrumentation, broadcast and communications systems, wireless infrastructure, pre-compliance testing, and portable electronics.
The Working Principle of the MAX9205EAI+ is based on the Zero-Delay Buffering (ZDB) technique. The device consists of a fully differential BIST Pattern Generator that generates a low-skew serial output. The serial output is fed into the ZDB inputs in two parts: data and clock. The clock is recovered from the data by passing it through a phase locked loop (PLL). The clock and data are then buffered by the ZDBs and output in parallel. The ZDBs are programmable, allowing the delay between the Clock and Data outputs to be tightly controlled.
The device requires a single 3.3V supply and internal level shifting of the differential outputs to support a wide range of logic levels. The internal clock circuitry also allows for phase adjustments if needed. The device can be programmed to operate in various modes, such as 8-bit mode, 4-bit mode and Pseudo-8bit mode.
