What is MAX9257AGTL/V+T Serializers and Deserializers?MAX9257AGTL/V+T Serializers and Deserializers is a class of interface ICs comprised of two major product families, SerDes and deserializers. The MAX9257AGTL/V+T Serializers/Deserializers ICs are capable of increasing the data rate, improving the power efficiency and enhancing the device performance of ICs used in today’s computing, storage, and multimedia applications.

Working Principle:

The serializer is used to convert the parallel data from the media Control Interface (MCI) of the processor or controller into the serial form. The serial data is then transmitted over a single signal line with the dedicated data clock provided from an external clock source. The signal line used for serial data transmission is generally the LVDS signal line. The deserializer is then used to reconstruct the serial data back into the parallel form. Both the Serializer and Deserializer chip use the same LVDS signal line and the same clock source to complete the serialization/deserialization process.

The MAX9257AGTL/V+T Serializers/Deserializers include multiple internal integrated blocks that are used to encode and decode the data, respectively. These internal blocks are responsible for the following tasks: provide the 8b/10b encoded interface to transmit and receive data, provide the phase locked loop (PLL) to synchronize the transmitter and receiver clocks, provide a set of internal parallel LVDS receive and transmit buffers with maximum frequency support up to 600 Mbps, provide decode and encode logic to create valid 8b/10b data from the input data and a set of logic to perform error detection and correction.

The internal functions of the Serializers and Deserializers chip are also determined by its application. For example, for the backplane applications, the internal blocks of the SerDes chips should provide support for the backplane bus protocol, such as SFI and XSR-4, and for the ethernet applications the internal blocks should provide support for the Ethernet protocol, such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE).
