Linear–Comparators: MAX9140AAXK+T Application Field and Working Principle A linear-comparator is an electronic device that compares two analog or digital signals, and outputs one signal when the two are equal, or different. These devices are used in a wide range of applications, such as audio-based recording, medical and industrial automation, and mobile security systems. The MAX9140AAXK+T is a highly reliable, low-voltage linear-comparator that is well-suited for applications with limited power supply levels.Working Principle The MAX9140AAXK+T acts as a voltage/current converter, and converts the input signal into a proportional output signal. The comparator consists of two operational amplifiers (OPAmps) and two transistors. The input signals are connected to the inputs of the first OPAMP\'s non-inverting and inverting input pins. These signals are reversed at the inverting input, and then applied to the second OPAMP\'s non-inverting and inverting inputs.The output of the two OPAmps is then compared, and the results sent to the two transistors. The transistor closest to the input is connected in such a way that it acts as an “open switch”, allowing current to flow if the input signals are equal or higher than the reference voltage. The second transistor then controls the output of the comparator. If the input signals are below the reference voltage, the transistor will be open, allowing the output voltage to remain low. However, if the input signals are equal or above the reference voltage, the transistor will close, increasing the output voltage.ApplicationsThe MAX9140AAXK+T can be used in a wide range of applications, including in battery-powered systems, audio-based recording devices, medical and industrial automation systems, and mobile security systems. In battery-powered systems, the device can be used to regulate the voltage, and ensure a consistent output.
