Interface - Serializers, Deserializers

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ is a premium, low-power serializer designed for advanced interface communication in multi-lane serial applications. It is designed as a complementary device to the MAX9273 deserializer. It takes a single input channel up to 18.5Gbps and serializes it into four differential output channels. The serializer utilizes a fourth-order 8-tap equalizer to support long and deep stub launches, allowing it to be employed in a wide variety of applications requiring link lengths up to 10m.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ is a part of a family of low-power multi-lane serializers and deserializers (SerDes). It is designed for narrow bus width, low-power serializer applications, such as bus widths of 6- or 8-bit, 10- to 12-bit, or 20- to 24-bit. All serializers and deserializers in the family provide differential transmit and receive capability over four serialized lanes and are fully compatible with the Serializer/Deserializer Multi-Lane (SMLL) datalink protocol.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ provides advantages over other serializers and deserializers. With a power dissipation per channel of about 300mW, it is one of the lowest power serializers available. This low power consumption allows it to be used in a variety of applications including consumer electronics, networking, storage, and many others. Additionally, the integrated programmable 4MHz clock synthesizer allows for flexible, low-noise clock synthesis.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ features a differential signal processing architecture. It accepts up to 18.5Gbps of differential data and serializes it to four lanes of output, providing up to 4.25Gbps of signal speed per lane. The serialized output is capable of being transmitted over standard copper or fiber optic cables with a maximum total cable length of 10m. The serializer is also capable of transmitting data at both the positive and negative side of the signal envelope.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ integrates an adaptive equalizer to allow the transmission of data signals over long connections. The automatic equalization feature allows for the elimination of signal degradation associated with long cabling runs. The serializer is capable of being operated with a wide range of line lengths including short runs (<50 inches) at high data rates as well as longer runs (>200 inches) at lower data rates.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ also includes an adjustable data transfer phase and optional FEC (Forward Error Correction) providing improved signal integrity over long links. Additionally, the serializer supports the use of multiple receivers for increased reliability in longer links. The integrated jitter attenuating phase-locked loop (PLL) provides improved jitter performance over traditional PLL-based designs.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ also features an integrated clock data recovery (CDR) circuit, allowing it to recover the underlying clock signal from the received data stream. This allows the MAX9271GTJ/V+ to accurately regenerate the clock signal with minimal jitter. The integrated CDR circuit also supports clock frequencies up to 4GHz.

The MAX9271GTJ/V+ offers a low-power solution for multi-lane serial data transmission and reception. With its differential signal processing architecture and advanced signal integrity features, the MAX9271GTJ/V+ allows for reliable data transmission and reception at high speed, over long distances.
