The MAX9278AGTM+T is an advanced equalizing serializer/deserializer (SerDes) transformer-coupled solution which includes an equalizing serializer (MAX9278A) and a high-performance deserializer (MAX9272T/MAX9272AT/MAX9272AT). Specifically designed for use in high-speed communications application, the MAX9278AGTM+T supports communication interface speeds up to 3.125 Gbps with data rate up to 12Gbps. The MAX9278AGTM+T provides a complete solution for multi-lane serial communication applications, including differential I/O interfaces such as x1 to x4, PCIe, and XAUI/XFI. It also has excellent jitter tolerance for for clock data recovery (CDR) to combat the performance degradation due to crosstalk, skew, and other jitter sources.

The MAX9278AGTM+T features a range of features, such as low power consumption, programmable equalization settings and I/O selection, 1.2V regulated power supply, low-voltage reference, extended operating temperature range, and advanced cable connectivity options. By implementing the patented transformer coupled scheme, the MAX9278AGTM+T enhanced performance and improved long cable reach to combat ISI, crosstalk, and other noise effects.

The equalizing serializer of MAX9278AGTM+T performs low-spreading data encoding and also reduces peak-to-average power by spreading signals across two cycles. It also ensures low-jitter clock data recovery and improved clock skew tolerance. XFI output bypass mode is available and input data can be direct from differential interface or from the serializer.

The deserializer of MAX9278AGTM+T provides exceptional jitter performance and offers high-spreading of data encoding. Random payloads are filtered and XFI output width is up to 17-bit interface. Additionally, the equalizing receiver and cable loopback features can detect the cable health automatically.

The MAX9278AGTM+T offers an ideal serializer/deserializer device for a wide range of applications such as test and measurement instruments, cable set-top boxes, A/V equipment, copiers, data acquisition systems, RAID controllers, and others. With its robust performance and superior power consumption of 450 mW per channel, it has cemented its place as one of the most reliable and efficient serializer/deserializer products.
