Introduction

MAX9374AEKA+T is a low-voltage, low-power, low-noise, single-channel, TTL-compatible logic translator. It is designed for low-noise data communications in cell phone applications, but can also find many applications in automotive, consumer, and data communication applications. This device can support two power domains, a low-voltage power domain (VCCIO1 and VCCIO2) and a high voltage power domain (VCC1 and VCC2).

Application Field

MAX9374AEKA+T is designed for low-noise data communications in consumer applications and can be used to translate between TTL logic levels and low- and high-voltage CMOS logic levels. Examples of high-voltage CMOS logic levels include, but are not limited to, logic levels ranging from 2.7V to 5.5V, and low-voltage CMOS logic levels ranging from 1.2V to 3.3V. The device can be used for data transmission between two different voltage power domains. It is also suitable for translating between high- and low-voltage CMOS logic. Since it is voltage and logic compatible, it can be connected directly to other logic devices without any special considerations. The device also has low power consumption, a wide operating temperature range, and is EMI resistant.

Working Principle

MAX9374AEKA+T works by providing separate power domains for the input and output sides of the device. The device has two power domains, VCCIO1 and VCCIO2 for the input (or low-voltage) side, and VCC1 and VCC2 for the output (or high-voltage) side. The VCCIO1 and VCCIO2 levels must be the same as the input levels while the VCC1 and VCC2 levels must be the same as the output levels.When an external voltage is applied to one of the input pins, the translator senses the input level and translates it to the corresponding output level. The translator has logic thresholds of 0.9V and 2.5V respectively for the high-voltage and low-voltage power domains. When the input logic level is greater than 0.9V, the translator will output a logic one. When the input logic level is less than 0.9V, the translator will output a logic zero.When both VCCIO1 and VCCIO2 levels are held at the same level as the input side, the high-voltage output side will operate in a “steady state”. This state will prevent any unwanted “glitches” from occurring when the first input pin is driven from the low-voltage side and then driven from the high-voltage side.
