Evaluation and demonstration boards and kits are designed to help engineers evaluate and get a better understanding of a system and its features. MAX9392EVKIT+ is a full name for the demonstration and evaluation board solution, it is intended to make the evaluation and debugging of the MAX9392 fully integrated high-speed serializer/deserializer (SERDES) more accessible, efficient and easier. It includes easy-to-use evaluation and demonstration, as well as a nice source of useful reference material. It has been designed with the intent to help reduce the cost of implementing a SERDES solution.

The MAX9392EVKIT+ provides an easy-to-use frame based serial communication interface between four transceiver devices. On board the transmitter side, data is passed through a switchable three-state comparator circuit for optimization of the received signal. On the receiver side, the board contains a high-speed, low jitter clock synthesizer and a built-in FIFO for safe storage and retrieval of receive data. The board consists of a base board, two daughter boards that are connected to the base board via a flexible edge connector, two serializer/deserializer (SERDES) daughterboards with MAX9392 , a systemmanagement daughter card and all necessary cables and components.

The MAX9392EVKIT+ has a wide range of application in areas that span from consumer electronics, automotive, medical imaging, communications and industrial control. It can be used to evaluate and demonstrate the MAX9392 high speed SERDES solution for new product designs, compare different designs or test a design in different environments and conditions. The kit is also a great source of reference material and useful information for engineers who are designing their own SERDES solution.

The MAX9392EVKIT+ works using the two daughter boards that house the SERDES chips. Each daughter board has two transceivers (MxRx chips), each transceiver has four channels. These channels drive the data for the P4 connector (the ERX/TX signals are routed to the four connector channels), which provides a full duplex, point-to-point interface. The chips provide a reduced transition time of 12.5ns and low jitter clock synthesizer.

The kit also has a built in system management daughter board. This board provides real time log of any errors that occur, and is used to enable communication to and from the SERDES chips. It also has a built in temperature sensor, humidity sensor, power supply monitor, an RS-232 serial connection and an RJ-45 Ethernet interface.

The MAX9392EVKIT+ has been designed to provide engineers with a powerful and complete solution for their evaluation and demonstration of the MAX9392 high speed SERDES solution. The board is incredibly flexible, allowing for easy setup as well as configuration options, which are user selectable through the on board system management daughter board. Achievable data rates are from the visible light spectrum up to 10 Gbps, with reach distances up to 10 meters, making the MAX9392EVKIT+ a great choice for applications that demand high data rates with long reach distances.
