MAX954C/D application field and working principle
The MAX954C/D is an integrated dual high-speed, low-noise OpAmp designed for split-rail op-amp applications (e.g. split-rail signal switching and signal conditioning) and other special purpose applications. The device comes in both a +5V and ±15V TO-223 package and features high slew rate of 20V/µs with no limiters, low noise (6.5nV/rootHz) and fast response time of 4ns. Additionally, the MAX954C/D includes ESD protection on the power pins and an adjustable “W” input for precision gain setting in 0.1dB steps.
Application Field
The MAX954C/D is mainly used in high speed signal conditioning applications such as high speed data acquisition, precision signal switching and signal filtering. The device is suitable for applications with bandwidth from DC to 25MHz. Thanks to the high slew rate and low noise of the device, the MAX954C/D provides maximum accuracy and dynamic range in high-speed signal processing.
In addition, the device can be used in two-pole vector-summing amplifiers and sample-and-hold amplifiers. It also features outstanding stability with capacitive loads and low power consumption suitable for battery applications.
Working Principle
The MAX954C/D are current-feedback operational amplifiers with fast recovery from overload (no limiters) and fast slew rate. Both the input stage and the output stage contain an Op Amp with a fast recovery current regulator (FRCR) which helps maintain a very low steady-state offset voltage and offset current while ensuring excellent high-frequency behavior. Its input stage consists of two separate parts; one part is a matched pair common-gate current mirror with symmetrical feed-forward. The other part is the FRCR current input stage with symmetrical level shifts plus voltage-offset cancellation stages.
The output stage is designed to deliver full bandwidth and high slew rate while remaining stable under all conditions. The device is factory trimmed to limit the input and output offset voltage, offset voltage drift and common-mode rejection ratio.
The adjustable “W” input allows a gain being set in 0.1dB steps for very precise gain setting. This allows for a very wide range of gain settings, from -20 dB to +20 dB.
