The MAX9720BEUE+is an audio amplifier IC designed to provide a high yield audio solution for fixed and gain-adjusted systems. By integrating a gain boosting preamplifier, a low impedance voltage-controlled amplifier, a bass boost circuit, dual-outputdrive capability, thermal protection, and an active mute, the MAX9720BEUE+ can be used in both speakers and headphones.
The MAX9720BEUE+ supports adjustable gain up to 32dB. It also provides a low-noise preamplifier to boost the input signal. Additionally, the bass boost circuit ensures loud, clear bass output. The maximum output power is 78mW for 8 ohm headphones, and up to 153mW for 4 ohm speakers.

Working Principle: The MAX9720BEUE+ works on the principle of charge transfer. When AC signals pass through the chip, its output voltage is amplified by the voltage transfer characteristic of the inductive network. Its inductive network is tuned with a proper damping factor. Its output voltage is determined by the difference in the distance between positive and negative portions of its network. This distance is called “the operating point” of the chip, and it is determined by a voltage regulator.
The MAX9720BEUE+ has two sections - an amplifier and preamplifier. It uses the voltage transfer principle in both sections. The preamplifier increases the input signal whereas the amplifier increases the output signal amplitude.
