MAX9725AEBC+T is a high-efficiency linear audio amplifier solution specifically designed for use with low-voltage portable and battery-powered applications such as cell phones, portable audio players, and other handheld consumer electronics. The MAX9725AEBC+T adopts a patented Class-H architecture and is rated at 4-Watts into 4-Ω loads with ≤ 1% total harmonic distortion (THD + Noise) at 1kHz and ≤ 10% at 20kHz. It features an integrated direct-drive output stage and power supply, as well as high-efficiency and low-distortion Class-H operation and tailored open-loop high-efficiency response. At a lower power level, the device can achieve approximately 90% efficiency.
The MAX9725AEBC+T audio amplifier offers a number of advantages over conventional Class-AB and Class-D amplifiers including improved power efficiency and low total harmonic distortion (THD+N) with the ability to split the power supply between positive and negative rails and adjust the output drive voltage when the supply voltage is below the amplifier’s headroom. In addition, the low input current consumption of the MAX9725AEBC+T audio amplifier enables system designers to extend battery life in portable applications.
The MAX9725AEBC+T audio amplifier utilizes a patented Class-H architecture to split the architectures power supply into two regulated supplies: one for the output circuit and one for the rest of the circuitry. This architecture is capable of achieving greater than 90% efficiency with the output power level ranging from 10mW to 4W (into 4-Ω loads). The split-rail architecture utilizes two regulated supplies to allow the output circuit and input circuits to remain powered as the battery discharge voltage decreases. This allows for a reduction in the output voltage swing and therefore the THD+N performance of the device
The MAX9725AEBC+T audio amplifier also features an adjustable high-frequency compensated gain stage and variable band-pass filter that provide improved signal-to-noise performance when used in conjunction with low-quality audio sources. The built-in adjustable gain stage enables the designer to easily perform calibration of the amplifier to optimize the small-signal performance of the device. The variable bandwidth filter controls the frequency response of the amplifier while also maintaining low distortion even when driving low-impedance loads.
The MAX9725AEBC+T audio amplifier is ideal for portable and battery-powered consumer device applications. With high efficiency and low total harmonic distortion, this device can reduce the power consumption of the system and ensure a high-quality audio output.
