Linear-Comparators are electronic circuits that measure the electrical potential difference between two terminals, typically voltage, and compare it to a prescribed threshold level. MC10E1652FNG, by ON-Semiconductor, is a very versatile comparator for multiple applications, featuring operation from 2.5V to 5.5V, low power consumption, and very low input offset voltage.The MC10E1652FNG comparator is capable of operating at a very low supply voltage, in addition to being very power efficient. It is suitable for an array of application such as switched capacitor filters, envelope detectors, sample-and-hold circuits, sample-and-compare circuits, overcurrent protection, peak-reading circuits, low frequency pulse detection and timing, low frequency oscillators, wide bandwidth data acquisition systems and logic level conversion. Its low input offset voltage of less than 350mV implies high degree of accuracy. The comparator’s capability of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion with signals beyond the scale of the voltage conforming to the power supply provides an even greater potential for applications. The MC10E1652FNG comparator has three states, based on the level of input voltage. If the voltage is sufficiently above the threshold voltage, the comparator will output a "high" logic level, which is represented by VCC. If the voltage is sufficiently below the threshold, the compatible will output a "low" logic level, which is represented by GND/0V. Finally, if the voltage is very close to the threshold, the comparator will produce a "high-impedance output" state, which is represented by the undefined logic level state.The MC10E1652FNG is a common emitter circuit, and is composed of two transistors and two resistors. The circuit works by applying voltage to the bases of two transistors, and by setting the resistors on the two outputs with a fixed ratio. When a negative voltage is applied to one of the two inputs of the MC10E1652FNG, the voltage on the voltage on the base of one of the two transistors falls down, while the voltage on the base of the other transistor increases.
