MC10H351FNG Application Field and Working PrincipleThe MC10H351FNG (MC10H351FNG), made by ON Semiconductor, is a logic translator, level shifter. As logic translators, level shifters are used most commonly to match the logic levels of two different logic families or different logic levels. For example, a level shifter may be used to interface between 3.3V and 5V logic signals.The primary application field of the MC10H351FNG is in interfacing between two logic levels or two logic families. It has two input pins: one for the higher logic level (A on the diagram) and another for the lower logic level (B on the diagram). Output is taken from the C pin. The device has an offset voltage of 1.5 volts which serves to adjust the voltage when transitioning between the two logic levels.The MC10H351FNG supports 11 different combinations of logic level inputs and provides a clean output of the desired logic level. This makes it highly versatile in many applications.The MC10H351FNG provides a control input that is used to enable or disable the device. The input low-enable ( LEN input) is used to initiate the logic level shifting process, while the input high-enable (HEN input) is used to terminate the process. Additionally, the device has no power-up or power-down glitches. This makes it ideal for use in switching applications.The working principle of the MC10H351FNG is based on the transfer of charges between the two input pins. As the input voltage from the lower logic level input (B) increases, the charge build-up at the output (C) increases as well. This increase in charge will cause the offset voltage to drop, which results in a higher voltage at the output. The opposite phenomenon takes place when the voltage at the lower logic level (B) decreases, resulting in the output voltage dropping accordingly.The output of the MC10H351FNG can be regulated by adjusting the control voltage levels at the input pins. This results in a precise level translation from the lower logic level to the higher logic level, with no unnecessary overshoots or undershoots.The MC10H351FNG is a very useful device for interfacing between two different logic levels or between two different logic families. It is capable of providing a wide variety of level translations with precise accuracy and no undesired effects. The device is compact, efficient and has a slew rate of 300ns and propagation delay of 10ns.
