MC68882CRC16A Application Field and Working Principle
The MC6888 is a single-contact-flash programmable read-only memory (Flash PROM) from Motorola Semiconductor, Inc. It is available in various densities that range from 4K-256K bytes. In addition, the 8K-16Kbytes of data are arranged in 16-bit words.

The MC68882CRC16A uses an 8-bit port A for input and output, a 4-bit port B for data writing, and a 2-bit port C for data reading. The 4KBytes of code is written to the MC68882CRC16A using the “write word” function. Once the memory block is programmed into the MC68882CRC16A, the chip can be powered down. When the system is powered up, the code will be executed by reading from the MC68882CRC16A. The CRC value for the code stream is calculated by writing the “external CRC start” bit and the “check” bit to port C. The external CRC end bit can be set to terminate any further changes to the code stream.
