Thyristors, also known as silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) and bidirectional triode thyristors, are solid-state semiconductor devices that control electrical current in circuits. Thyristors are used in electronic appliances, such as power supplies, voltage regulators and motor controllers, as well as communications and signal based circuits.

A SCR, or silicon controlled rectifier, is an electrical component, made of two or four layers of alternating N- and P-type semiconductors. It has two main parts: the gate and the anode, and when the current through it is increased to a certain threshold value, the SCR suddenly "fires". This event is called a triggering.

MCC500-20IO1 is a type of thyristor module, with two thyristors (SCRM) encapsulated into one single case. It is designed for high power applications in the range of 11kW AC and 20A DC.
